The Rio Report

"The count went from 8 total in Great Falls entry, to 16 in Missoula. He showed off some, I let him sit on top of the crate while waiting for show time. He sat there for a little bit, then threw those big brown eyes to the other competitors. Tried to eat the straw flower off the hat of someone just sitting waiting for the Cardis to go in. By doing so, he was considered a clown and it went from there for getting more attention. Alvin also sits on top of the crate while waiting at ringside, will be interesting if I take both to a show on how well things will go for both of them sitting on top of the crates.
His head was screwed on a bit better also. He put it together and was Winner's dog for the the first day. He enjoyed the Kamping Kabins at KOA, especially when he was getting to see so many other dogs. Several campers while walking around stopped to say hello to him, naturally liked being the center of attention."
-as reported by Belinda, Rio & Alvin

Go team Rio!! Woot! Woot! Hoping some of the luck will go his sister's way this weekend in Lacey.

Rio goes to a show

Story by mommy Belinda:

"As soon as we got out of the rig at the show, Rio knew where he was and starting talking - to Mastiffs he asked to play, rumbled his throat box to several other large than him dogs to say hello.

We were there very early for ring time. I pulled him out of the crate to brush off and give some water, and he was ready to go into the ring. Was able to find a place to sit next to our ring, where Rio and crate cart were hidden from judge by the table in the ring (that holds the ribbons), plus a couple of items hanging off the top of the crate. Was worried about him being thirsty, so left the crate door open with the water pail hanging off the door and I had put my chair close enough to keep him from sneaking out. He took a couple sips then reclined in his crate - didn't even get curious about other dogs walking around or being stopped close to us.

A couple of friends saw him for the first time, noticed how long he was versus the rest of the gang, and really liked his looks plus his behavior.

Did well for exam on table, yet sniffed for girls while on table (prior to the judge going over him), as soon as judge had hands on him, he got his head up and stood very still. Prior to going into the ring, was getting scents that were interesting to him. Walked a straight line, staying on the matting!

Going to Wally World, either tonight or tomorrow morning (prior to show) for some Vick's rub. Do either one have suggestions for other than Vick's?????

How did he do???????????...........RWD

And Rio too!

A belated Happy Birthday to Rio. Handsome, happy boy!

He writes:
"Dear Rogue

Find some photos attached of me (Rio) at my home. My mom has been planting flowers along with other kinds of plants and I have been helping her out. It has rained here alot, was no fun on our birthday, as it was raining so I did not get to go out as much as we usually do.

These photos are from playing in the backyard with my soccer ball. Mom says dad "suckered in" to purchase me a real soccer ball.

It is so nice to see how much we all of grown and how wonderful our parents are.

RI --- OOOOOOO
Oops mom is calling ! Have to go is bed time for all good Corgis.

Rio
&
Belinda"

Belinda emailed too that they are entered in a few upcoming shows. Best of luck to team Rio and Belinda!!

Hi Rio!!

Belinda writes:
"Well I have managed to get some time at the computer. We went through a scare with the computer and Fred had to work on it for about 3 weeks, which really did not give me a chance to be on the computer.
"I hope you like these photos....some are with Alvin - it is amazing how much they look to each other. You will also get to see the "girls" Bea & Truedy, I bred them and they were born on Valentine's Day 1998. Bea is the brown one, we have also seen similarities between Rio & Truedy. The girl's grand sire is Elmo's half brother Percy...so still in the family to some extent.
Looking out the window a bit ago, Rio was playing with Bea - running around the backyard with some wrestling included. Bea has always been the greatest "Auntie" for pups. Rio is always wearing a smile, I am hoping he will get better with his vocabulary - in that he starts making sounds more like he is talking.
"Tomorrow I plan to take him to the vet's office to see how much he weighs, last time I took him in he was 25 pounds which was about a month ago.
"He is better on the retrieving, and has found the staircase - he gets such a sad face when I tell him he has to stay at the top of the stairs, almost as if I have broken his heart. But soon (about 2 months) I will be letting him go up and down without assistance. Also he has found out I keep the chow plus bone treats downstairs, but not the exact location. Alvin is also teaching him about the squirrels, the girls throw in their advice also.
"Yesterday I actually mistook the barking I was hearing as Alvin, to find out it was Rio ! Do hope that was only an one time deal .... don't need confusion on who I am hearing bark.
Enjoy the photos, stay warm - it is bitterly cold here AND Rio likes it (!) - I am going to go warm up under the electric blanket.
"I have plans on coming over to the Portland shows for a couple of days. Maybe we may see each other?"

Belinda, Rio looks great and happy. Yes, Rogue and I will be at the Rose City Classic. I look forward to meeting you in person!! -L

Sing, sing a song

Rogue, named after an X-Men character, will continue to be called Rogue. Her registered name will be Toreth's C-Myste's Rollin' On the River, in honor of Carolyn's geography and music of her generation. CCR's Proud Mary, covered by Ike and Tina Turner, is about a river boat on the Mississippi. The river boats have a rhythmic paddle and flow smoothly down their course. I'm hoping she lives up to that come showtime with her movement. The Rogue River, on the other hand, is a class III+ river in southern Oregon. This connotation suits her sassy personality. I know be careful what you name your babies! But I like an adventurous spirit.

Mags is now called Rio (Toreth's C-Myste's Cry Me a River). It was Carolyn's choice to go along with Rogue's name. I am partial to song names and Rio is just about as perfect a name there is for a boy like him.
